Hooked?

How do you hook your readers?

I've been working on the beginning of my story. Trying to make sure I have a hook. Want my readers to keep reading. I must say, if you want inspiration on how to hook a reader, read Hooked by Les Edgerton. Or read this article.

Here's the first paragraph of my YA novel. Let me know if it has you "hooked."

The day my twin sister, Ivy, saw a light that knocked her senseless is the day things changed for everyone at my school. Not because of Ivy. She's the type most people overlook. Me however, I'm 6'2'' with fire-red hair and annoying freckles. And I'm the captain of the basketball team. So lucky for me, I stand out. Or fit in. Whichever you want to call it.
