Delirium

Delirium
By Lauren Oliver
Genre: Science Fiction
My Rating: 4 stars

Delirium (Delirium, #1)Summary taken from goodreads.com: Before scientists found the cure, people thought love was a good thing. They didn’t understand that once love -- the deliria -- blooms in your blood, there is no escaping its hold. Things are different now. Scientists are able to eradicate love, and the governments demands that all citizens receive the cure upon turning eighteen. Lena Holoway has always looked forward to the day when she’ll be cured. A life without love is a life without pain: safe, measured, predictable, and happy.

But with ninety-five days left until her treatment, Lena does the unthinkable: She falls in love.

In case you were unaware: I adore YA dystopian science fiction novels.  And though I was enthralled with this one, I was left feeling like this one lacked something.  It seemed a little too predictable throughout.  I thought Lena's character seemed a little too ordinary to me--maybe that's the point, but I like it when the main character is a little more bold, a little more...I dunno, just a little more...

But it was beautifully written and compelling.  I read it in three days, and would have finished it sooner, but I have a toddler to chase after now which makes sitting down to read for longer than a page or two impossible.  Unless he's asleep, and that's where I want to be too.

Anyway....Overall, I would recommend this book.  I will definitely read the next book in the series, though I'm not counting down the days like I am with the sequel of Matched. (Crossed comes out November 1st!)

  1. It sounds very intriguing - a scientific cure for love - love being a disease! Wonderful!

Thanks for the info and for your very honest review! Take care
