Matched
By Ally Condie
Genre: Science fiction
My rating: 4.8 stars
Summary from goodreads.com: "Cassia has always trusted the Society to make the right choices for her: what to read, what to watch, what to believe. So when Xander's face appears on-screen at her Matching ceremony, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is her ideal mate . . . until she sees Ky Markham's face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black.
The Society tells her it's a glitch, a rare malfunction, and that she should focus on the happy life she's destined to lead with Xander. But Cassia can't stop thinking about Ky, and as they slowly fall in love, Cassia begins to doubt the Society's infallibility and is faced with an impossible choice: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she's known and a path that no one else has dared to follow."
I thought this was a very fun and intriguing read. If you know me and have read my other reviews you know how much I adore dystopian novels and this is definitely one of them. I read this book in two days, despite doctors visits and errands and all that other life stuff that gets in the way of reading.
I was surprised to find the story focused so much on the love story rather than on their society, but I enjoyed reading the book. It reminded me very much of The Giver in that jobs and mates are chosen for them. But Matched differs in refreshing new ways, and I loved all the characters. I also loved the role Cassia's parents played in the story.
I honestly don't know what else to say about it except that I thoroughly enjoyed reading Matched and absolutely CANNOT wait until the next book comes out because Ally Condie leaves you desiring to know what happens next. I hate and love when authors do that.
P.S. When my hubby discovered what this book is about he declared the next book should be titled Mismatched. Just wanted to throw that out there.
P.P.S. Apparently book number 2 is titled Crossed and comes out this November. :)

I've heard such good things about this book! So yay that you enjoyed it too!! Your hubby's remark made me laugh!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review and info! Take care

Noooo, you mean this is a series!? Rats. I have this on my TBR list, and I don't want to feel/be dangled by the end of it. I've heard it's good, however. Thanks for the review!
