Da Vinci and Me

A while ago, I don't even know why (except that I became obsessed with the concept of creativity) I decided to study Leonardo da Vinci's life. Considered one of the greatest creative geniuses of mankind I wanted to know more about him. The more I learned about the guy, the more fascinated I was. I had no idea all the things he accomplished in his life. And towards the end of his life he regretted not doing more, apologizing to “God and man for leaving so much undone.” This man had numerous notebooks. Over 7,000 pages of questions, doodles, observations, diagrams, pictures, etc. He questioned concepts that wouldn't be discovered for several more years. (Ex: 60 years before Galileo he wondered if it would be possible to create a “large magnifying lens” to be able to see the moon. 200 years before Newton he wondered why “every weight presses downward”). He wondered why dropping a rock in water would create “circles” around the object. And he didn't just wonder. He tried to find out for himself the answers to his plethora of questions and curiosities. He created flying machines to explore the air and invented the snorkel to see what was below the water. And he explored so many things in-between.

I thought of other creative geniuses: Mozart, Michaelangelo, Shakespeare, Einstein, the list goes on and on. I continued contemplating why I have not yet been able to meet a person of da Vinci's genius and creativity today. And the answer I came up with led to my current writing project.
